“One day you will look back and see that all along you were blooming.” - Morgan Harper Nichols
Hi guys! I am Claire, one of your senior editors for the Clarion this year. I am going to try and not get all sappy on you guys, but this is my last year, so I am not going to make any promises. I joined the Clarion during my sophomore year after my sister, and former editor, Abbi convinced me to. Originally, I had absolutely no idea what I was getting myself into and thought that this would be the last thing I wanted to be spending my time on. However, after spending the last two years of my life dedicating myself to this program, I could not have asked for it any other way. Actually, I decided after being in this program that I want to study Journalism Education in the Fall of 2022.
One thing you will notice in common about me and Abbi is that we are both pretty opinionated people and will not sit on the sidelines while we watch injustice unfold. That being said, you will also notice that my favorite type of article to publish is an editorial, where I am allowed to open this big mouth of mine and not get yelled at. One of my biggest passions is the animal rights movement, where let me tell you, all the injustice and then some occurs behind the scenes. I am a three-year strong vegetarian for the sole purpose of saving the animals, and the planet. But if you want to learn more about that, go check out If Slaughterhouses Had Glass Walls.
Now aside from Clarion, I really spend the majority of my time with my team, the Spartanettes. We dance pretty much year-round, so when I am not dancing, I have no idea what to do with my time. With that being said, a little fun fact is that we are traveling to Hawaii in December 2021! We were able to get this opportunity at dance camp, which if you can not tell based on my introduction I am a little ( A LOT ) emotional, so I obviously cried at this news. Like I cry at a majority of other things like any movie where the dog dies, if you kill a bug in front of me, or when someone hurts my feelings ( which obviously is not the hardest thing to do ).
As my time here as an editor comes to an end, my sappy, loud-mouthed, passionate story is just beginning to unfold. So who knows, maybe next time you read something like this from me it will be introducing myself as the teacher behind it all. But like I said, who knows.
