Jackson Maine lives most most of his life under a hat. The brim hides his boozy eyes as he moves show to show. But when he steps on stage, that hat comes off. Jackson is going deaf, and his brother Bobby, begs him to wear ear plugs to perserve what hearing he has left.

Ally’s life is more predestrian. She works as a serever at a semi-swanky banquet hall, her supervisor  belittling her whenever he sees her do any wrong. She lives with her dad in a modest house, where she cooks and cleans. One night a week, at a local club where wig-wearing drag queens populate the stage, she tranfroms. She paints her hair, types thin eyebrows to her face and becomes a star.

Jackson getting drunk one night where Ally works,  and hears her sing. He falls in love with her voice and figures out where she lives and trys to convince her to come on tour with him. She has just about given up on her dream to make it as big as a singer untill Jackson coaxes her into the spotlight. But even as Ally’s career takes off, the personal side of thier relatinship is breaking down, as Jackson fights an ongoing battle with his own.
